{ fanmix: this is not a love song }
This is not a love song. Only people who are in love listen to love songs. No, you're not quite there yet. One of you is a hopeless romantic, a bright-eyed little boy lost, Peter Pan with an inferiority complex and a busted long-term memory. The other is the scientist, the liar, the father and the son, with so many faces to keep up and new roles to play it's hard to tell whether you're coming or going anymore. Fate is not your friend, but here you both go playing with it again.

Maybe there's something between you, maybe there's not. Because anytime you end up in a room together somebody dies or explodes or busts a hole in time and space, to change the future or the past or maybe nothing at all. But that's neither here nor there really, because you're not in love.

This is not a love song. At least not yet.

01. NARC, INTERPOL (paul banks remix)

History catch fire and so you run
Show love and respect
So glad we met

02. YOU COME IN BURNED, THE DANDY WARHOLS

Well, you come in baby,
you will get burned
Because I am just what I am, I've learned
I slowly become some “why” that you live with
And mama told you that you would get this
Hey, I lost you when you took me in, my friend
Now against my will, I still stay out

03. ONE FOR YOU, THE KNIFE

Everybody was laughing when they found us
one for you and one for me
Then they let us go to hunt us down again
and still you refuse to see
why everything has to stay ugly

04. BODIES, SMASHING PUMPKINS

The tragedies reside in you
The secret sights hide in you
The lonely nights divide you in two
All my blisters now revealed
In the darkness of my dreams
In the spaces in between us
But no bodies ever knew
Nobody's
No bodies felt like you

05. LEG OF LAMB, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

In a hotel on the phone
You're gonna leave me, I should've known
And I was thinkin, it's so sad
I didn't want you to go

...
I'll tell you what, I'd get up
If I knew I fell

06. PERFECT ONE, SNEAKER PIMPS

Place your mark on me now
Hang your star on my form
Hold your hope to my arm
Place your faith on my charm
This is how I would
This is all our time to tell
This is how we spread over rough things
Found from clipped wings

Look at me now
Look at me now
I've become the perfect one

07. AFTERMATH, TRICKY/MARTINA TOPLEY-BRD

Your eyes resemble mine, you see as no others can
Here inherit my kingdom, speak of our people's plan
I'll be here for my baby, for my baby I'll be near
So many things I need to tell you, things you need to hear

How can I be sure
In a world that's constantly changing
How can I be sure

08. SOUND CHECK (GRAVITY), GORILLAZ

Gravity on me
Never let me down gently
Never let me go

09. THIS MESS WE'RE IN, PJ HARVEY/THOM YORKE

Can you hear them
The helicopters
I'm in New York
No need for words now
We sit in silence
You look me
In the eye directly
You met me
I think it's Wednesday
The evening
The mess we're in

10. INTO THE HOLLOW, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE

Avoir, Adieu, Goodnight
I’m too wrong, to get right
But I cant wait forever
I’ve always been alone
A fool believes he’s clever

Don’t you wanna go into the Hollow?
I won’t go it alone
Aren’t you gonna follow?

11. THE GREATEST, CAT POWER

Once I wanted to be the greatest
No wind or waterfall could stall me
And then came the rush of the flood
Stars of night turned deep to dust

12. FOREVER, GOLDFRAPP

Here I wanna be a stranger
Drift in and then out, just linger
Slow motion u fall, like a blossom
Way out there on a star, nova lazy

13. WRECKING BALL, INTERPOL

Nobody warned you
Nobody told you
To make up your mind

Nobody told you
That I could just walk through
And shake up your style

I'm inside
Like the wrecking ball
Through your eyes
And I change it all from inside

You are to blame for my recent obsession with Interpol as a result of the last fan mix, so I am definitely downloading this.

I'm glad to hear. Interpol deserve to be obsessed over, :) Thanks for downloading.

Jesus, I barely even ship Peter/Mohinder but I downloaded this so fast I think I sprained my finger. I feel like we have the EXACT same taste in music... Interpol, Goldfrapp, Tricky, Dandy Warhols, Sneaker Pimps, THE KNIFE (omg YES)... seriously. SO. MUCH. LOVE.

And the songs all work perfectly with the P/M dynamic. The only reason I'm on the edge about shipping them is because I found a lot of the fics to be too fluffy for me, but now I may have to reconsider, because these, as you said, are not love songs <3

PS: Totally snagging an icon too.

I found a lot of the fics to be too fluffy for me

That's precisely why I did this mix. People tend to look at the fluff fic and assume that's all P/M is about. But it's a complicated ship, and a painful ship sometimes too, and I really wanted to convey that to people...

Well you did a fantastic job, and now I'm on the lookout for P/M fics. If you have any recommendations (just off the top of your head) that would be so fab :).

Right now I would have to highly recommend [info]fool_of_ships's Good Intentions, but to be honest anything of hers is definitely rec-worthy. Also Autumn Eyes by [info]takethesky87 is a nice read, too.

Awesome. Very fitting of your Mohinder and Peter and the way you write them. Poignant and powerful and strong. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you. I have a very...specific interpretation of the characters and their connection/relationship potential, that I don't go into very often, even in meta. So while this may be a slightly heavy-handed way of doing it, this was just my way of arranging those thoughts in my head and just getting that sense of things out there, just for anybody who curious about my absent-minded babblings on the two of them...

I don't think it's particularly heavy-handed. It's a good way of organizing your thoughts about the characters, if nothing else.

Your interpretation of the characters and their relationship is cohesive and consistent. Where it doesn't match with mine, it never irritates me because I believe in it when you write it. Not that you should care if it irritates me or not, but I assume you know what I mean, where, sometimes when you write characters one way for a long time or see them a very particular way, other people's interpretations begin to grate and yours doesn't.

Anyway, whatever, you don't really care. I'm just saying I like what you do with them. It's compelling and I appreciate the care you put into it.

Amazing! It's sweet and fluff, unexpected and at the same time real.

I am so bad at commenting on fanmixes! I always have to listen to them three or four times before I form any kind of opinion, and by that point I've often forgotten about offering feedback, but eventually I start to feel guilty about not doing so, and I do track down the source, even if it is two months after the fact. ANYWAY, after all that preamble, here's my review:

I approve.

(Seriously, when I first saw that you had done this, I tried to think of a single song appropriate for these two, and I thought of nothing. I'm very impressed that you managed to compile a complete soundtrack.)
